Inside the Experience
Skippers Fish & Chips stands as a dependable local gem in the heart of Durban, offering a straightforward yet satisfying dining experience. Situated at Shop 6 Belmont Arc on Dr Pixley Kaseme Street, this modest eatery prides itself on serving classic favorites that cater well to late-night cravings and casual meals. The atmosphere is easygoing, complemented by foot-tapping pop music and a warm, cozy setting that invites both regulars and first-timers.
The menu shines with timeless dishes like their fresh, generously sized burgers, crispy fish and chips, and freshly breaded prawns that maintain a delightful crunch without being overly greasy. Customers frequently praise the "hamburger complete" and the milanesa napoletana, highlighting how these dishes hit the right balance of flavor and value. Though the rabas occasionally come with a little too much fat, the overall quality stays consistent.
Service at Skippers Fish & Chips tends to be friendly and attentive when staffing allows, but at times it can lean toward the demanding side due to limited personnel. Despite that, cold drinks and a welcoming vibe enhance the experience, making it a comforting stop especially during late hours when most other options close. The prices remain competitive, solidifying its place as a cost-effective solution near the main street of Durban.
In sum, Skippers Fish & Chips excels as a no-nonsense, locally loved spot that serves up classic, hearty meals with steady quality and the kind of casual hospitality that keeps people coming back. While it may not be the place for culinary experimentation, it delivers well on simple, well-executed dishes perfect for any time hunger strikes.
“ A nice local place. The "hamburger complete" was tasty and I enjoyed the prawns. Prawns were breaded but still good. It's a very easy going place. ”
“ The food was good, service was very good. We appreciated that they were open late. The drinks were cold and the people warm. I would go back again for a late night meal. ”
“ Pizza/pasta/burger place with foot tapping pop music and warm cosy atmosphere. Service was fine however I think anyone who works with customers should have lots of big, genuine smiles :-) The burger and chips were very fresh, with a perfect bun, and a big serve as well for $16,000. I went in for lentil stew (outside menu) but I didn't see it on the inside menu. I'd go again. ”
“ Its a nice place. We had milanesa napoletana and rabas. Milanesa was very tasty. With french fries. The rabas - all right. With only one slice of lemon and too much fat. Unfortunately, when we visit the place only obe woman worked, so to get attention of the waitor was chalenging. The prices are super good. But would i like to come back? I dont think so. Buuuuut milanesa was really good)) ”
“ This is the only restaurant open when others are closed, no matter when you try, at what hour you try, here is something you can eat. Dont expect too much on food, so I highly recommend not to experiment here; go with something simple like grill. this is my backup after long trips. ”
